My Post Christmas Review
Thursday, December 31st, 2009
Well, the Christmas holiday has come and gone. The gifts have all been unwrapped and I thought I’d take a moment to make a few post holiday observations about what was popular this year, both in my house and in general.
Something I wanted to note, as the designated “toy putter together” guy, is that this seems to have been the year of the pointless tiny screw. If you had to unpackage any toys at all, you probably came across some of these tiny fasteners. These miniscule Phillips head screws were used to fasten just about every toy I unpacked to the actual packaging. These were used in addition to the plastic coated wire that became popular over the past two or three years. I hope that there is at least a person on the other end of the transaction getting paid a decent wage for twisting those wires and screwing those screws!
So anyway, I’ve come to the conclusion that I like toys that not only entertain, but also serve a function. We bought the Disney Pixar Cars Pitstop Workbench this year after much searching. I’ve got to say that it was easy to put together and putting loose toy tools into it is part of the fun for my son. Thumbs up for that one.
The Wii fit wasn’t quite as popular as the Guitar Hero game, but it looks pretty interesting. I haven’t brought myself to jump on the balance board yet. I don’t know if my ego is ready for the scolding that I’m obese. That one will have to wait until my New Year resolution to get into shape takes effect in a couple of days.
Finally, I’d like to say that although I have no personal experience with them, I think the Elmo Tickle Hands might have been just one Elmo product too many. Buy hey, if the kids like them, that’s all that counts!
